It's anybody's competition with three races to go.
(St. Leon, Ind.) - After two races, teenagers from Lawrenceburg and Batesville sit atop the Southeastern Indiana Racing Circuit leaderboard.
The annual five-race circuit started with the Knight Flight 5K in Aurora on July 13.
Adam Rector, 21, of Aurora was the overall winner with a time of 17:52. The top female performer was Batesville native Lily Pinkley. The 16-year-old came in at 20:21, finishing 10th overall.
Leg two of the circuit was held this past Saturday at the Trojan Trot 5K in St. Leon.
It was 18-year-old Garrett Ardis, of Lawrenceburg taking the top spot with a time of 18:32. Not far behind was former South Ripley cross country star Megan Cole, who finished 4th overall at 19:39.
After two races, Ardis holds the top spot in the men’s competition with a total time of 36:49. He leads Adam Hollowell, 17, of Batesville by 2:04.
The female competition is much closer through two races. Lauren Kelly, 16, of Brookville leads with a total time of 42:08. Trailing just 15 seconds behind is 48-year-old Kim Johnston, of College Corner, Ohio.
Brookville will play host to the next SIRC race on July 27 with the Lakeside 5K.
Funds raised by the 5K’s go to benefit each high school’s cross country teams.
