INDIANAPOLIS – First baseball, now softball.

The National Federation of High School Associations announced Tuesday that their Softball Rules Committee has approved the wearing of jewelry in the sport, effective with the 2023 season.

The announcement comes a day after the NFHS voted to remove a rule that disallowed baseball players to wear jewelry.

In both baseball and softball, only medical and religious medals were permitted, previously.

The new jewelry rule headlines a set of six rule changes forwarded by the committee.

Other rules changes include loosening color restrictions for gloves and mitts, changes to walk-off home runs scoring, and reformed batter-runner interference.
