(Fort Wayne, Ind.) - Garrett Yoon recently heard a sentence he is very familiar with.

"You are QB1."

Yoon, a sophomore at the University of Saint Francis, is ready for his first full year as a starter when he leads the Cougars on Saturday night against St. Xavier. He is no stranger to being under center. Yoon was a four-year starter at Lawrenceburg High School, where he is the all-time leading passer.

"Not surprised this young man won the job! A competitor & a winner! Good Luck Garrett," said Lawrenceburg head coach Ryan Knigga on social media.

Yoon ranks 12th in Indiana high school football history for career passing yards with 9,115 yards. He also threw 95 touchdowns and ran for 51 more as he led the Tigers to three EIAC championships and three sectional titles between 2018 and 2021.

Now, Yoon will try to replicate that success at Saint Francis, a program that hasn't had a winning season since 2019. Despite lacking recent success, Saint Francis is a program with a rich history of winning conference and national titles. The Cougars were back-to-back national champions in 2016 and 2017.

With Yoon at QB and a lot of playmakers back on offense, the Cougars look primed to get back to winning ways in 2023. They are ranked #4 in the Mid States Football Association Conference, which features 14 teams.

Off the field, Yoon is majoring in Business Administration. He is currently on Dean's List and President's List.

Glenn Marini of WAVE-TV caught up with Yoon this week ahead of Saturday's opening game of the season.
