(St. Leon, Ind.) - A local dance team may need a bigger trophy case.

East Central Junior and Senior Dance teams capped off their season at the National Grand Champions at the Showcase America Unlimited National Championships on Saturday.

The junior team, which consists of dancer in grades 7-9, competed in four categories, finishing first in Lyrical, Pom, and Hip Hop. They also took second place in Jazz.

EC Seniors (10-12 graders) also competed in four categories, with the exact finish as the junior team. They took first in Lyrical, Pom and Hip Hop, and finished second in Jazz.

For each age division, the top 15 routines were entered into the Best of the Best competition.

EC’s junior team’s Pom routine was awarded the gold medal for the best overall routine. Their hip hop routine earned the silver medal. At the senior level, EC’s dance team took gold for their Pom routine, and silver for their Hip Hop routine.

Overall, both junior and senior teams placed four routines each into the top 15.

It has been a great couple of years for EC Dance. The junior and senior teams won the virtual SCAU National Title in 2020.

The team also performed well at the 2021 SCAU Indiana State Championship in March, where the junior team swept all four categories and the senior team placed first in three categories.
