Shelby passed away on July 11, nearly a month after his 101th birthday.
(Logan, Ind.) - A member of America's Greatest Generation will be laid to rest today.
George Shelby, of Logan, passed away on July 11, nearly a month after he turned 101 years old.
Shelby is a World War II Veteran who proudly served in the U.S. Navy form 1943-1946 as an Electrician's Mate 2nd Class aboard the USS Counsel AM165 at Saipan and the USS Gadwell AM36E.
He will be laid to rest today at 1:00 p.m. at the Graceland Cemetary in Milford, Ohio. Burial will take place with full military rites provided by the Southeastern Indiana Honor Guard.
Prior to his passing, Shelby was one of Dearborn County's last six living World War II Veterans. The remaining list includes Tom Cook, George Lingg, George Klopp, Clarence Cook, and JC Lewis.
