(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) Director of the Archaeology Research Center at IU East, Aaron Comstock and Christina Emery from the Archaeological Research Institute (ARI) were named as recipients of Indiana University’s 2021 Women’s Philanthropy and Leadership Council (WPLC) Fund Grant.

The grant recognizes the importance of funding a multivocal land-stewardship program for the Guard Archaeological Site in Lawrenceburg, IN.

Input from Tribal partners, the DNR, land owners, and archaeologists will be integrated in developing a plan for protecting and celebrating this space.

Parts of the site will be moved to a pollinator prairie restoration area, a protective butterfly garden over sacred spaces, and a non-destructive hayfield.

IU East Students, ARI staff and community volunteers will be assisting in the new stewardship plan, habitat restoration, and longitudinal biodiversity studies.
