(Harrison, Oh.) - The Southwest Local School District has named a new principal at one of its elementary schools.

The SLSD Board of Education voted this week to approve Mia Neckel as the principal at Whitewater Valley Elementary School.

Neckel previously served as Title I coordinator and instructional coach and has been with Southwest Local School District for 22 years.

The Miami University graduate began her tenure with Southwest as a first-grade teacher at Hooven Elementary School. From 199-20016, she taught at Crosby Elementary, both first and second grades, then moved to Harrison Elementary last school year.

"Everywhere Mia serves within our district, she makes a difference," said Superintendent John C. Hamstra. "In her work as a teacher, through her time as Title I Coordinator and as instructional coach, everywhere she works, there has been improvement and student growth. Her passion and dedication to our students is evident as is her devotion to providing quality education through professional development of our teachers and the use of technology to enhance curriculum."

Neckel will replace Adam Lohbeck, who was recently named Director of Operations for the district.

"I am unbelievably humbled by the opportunity and am excited to join such a wonderful team of students, parents and staff members," said Neckel. "It is my intent to keep many of the strong Whitewater Valley Elementary traditions in place while continuing to support and enhance the good work that educational leaders, such as Mr. Lohbeck, have established."
