Vietnam Veteran Bo Schreiner Is Reds Hometown Hero On Labor Day

(Madison, Ind.) - The Cincinnati Reds will play the Philadelphia Phillies on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2, 2019.  The game starts at 2:10 PM and another Southeastern Indiana veteran will be honored as the Hometown Hero.

Lutz “Bo” Schreiner Jr. grew up in Lawrenceburg.  

His parents were Lutz Schreiner Sr. and Clotilda “Tillie” Schreiner or “Judge Tillie”.  Bo grew up on Short St. with sisters, Jeanine, Clare Jon and Mellonnie and attended St. Lawrence Grade School and Lawrenceburg Consolidated High School.

Bo entered the United States Army on January 20, 1967, on his 19th birthday. Bo served for 22 years and retired as a Staff Sergeant on May 5, 1989.  

He spent one year in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Screamin’ Eagles and was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded by enemy fire. Other awards included the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Army Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal with “V” for valor,  Army Commendation Medal with “V” for valor, Air Medal, Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with Palm, Overseas Service Ribbon and the NCO Professional Development Ribbon.  

He also served two tours of duty in Germany and one tour in Honduras.

Bo married Sue Evans Schreiner in 1990 and they have four children and six grandchildren.  Today they reside in Madison, IN.

Bo is a proud Life Member of the Southeastern Indiana Vietnam Veterans of America Lary D. Fogle Chapter 71 in Aurora.  He has been a member of the Color Guard for over 30 years.  Bo grew up in the same neighborhood with Lary Fogle.

Bo lives by the words of Duty, Honor, Country and thanks you for your support of our veterans and for respecting our American Flag.
