The demolitions were responsible for loud explosions heard in the area Wednesday.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Eagle Country residents who reported hearing explosions Wednesday morning were correct.

The loud booms heard in the area were from a controlled demolition at the former Tanners Creek Power Plant site in Lawrenceburg. Citizens as far away as Bright reported hearing the blasts.

Tanners Creek Development, LLC demolished two 400-foot metal smokestacks on Wednesday.

Last month, a larger 500-foot-tall concrete smokestack was demolished.

The site of the decommissioned power plant is being remediated to make the 725-acre tract available for development as Indiana’s fourth port.
