The project will impact traffic on Walnut Street during through the summer.

(Batesville, Ind.) - The City of Batesville will begin the State Road 229 Utility Relocation Project next on approximately May 10. The infrastructure improvement project takes place in advance of the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) S.R. 229 repaving and resurfacing project in late 2021.

The Batesville Board of Works approved the $857,000 from Paul H. Rowe Company who is the contractor for this project.

The construction will take place on Walnut Street from the corner of Main and Boehringer to Hillcrest Golf Course beginning the week of May 10 through mid-September 2021.

Motorists are encouraged to drive with caution and seek alternate routes to access downtown Batesville during the project. Alternate routes of accessing downtown include Columbus Avenue, Huntersville Road, Mitchell Avenue, Tekulve Avenue and Pearl Street.

“I know this will be difficult for drivers, including myself, to navigate our way in and around downtown but this is an extremely important project,” said Mayor Mike Bettice. “Our utilities in this area have not been upgraded since the 1930’s and the work we’re doing this summer will benefit the citizens of Batesville for generations.”

How will this impact businesses and homes along the project route?

The City strongly supports our small business community and acknowledges the minor inconvenience this much-needed project will have on select businesses and homeowners. This project will at no time impact access into any business or home or force a business to temporarily close. Feel free to reach out to the City with additional inquires.
