(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – What’s the holdup on U.S. 50 in Lawrenceburg and Aurora?

It is road crews patching and repairing the highway. And they’ll be doing so during the daytime for up to two weeks.

Indiana Department of Transportation spokesman Scott Manning says a contractor began the patching operations Wednesday, April 10.

“This work will consist of pavement patching, in the more deteriorated locations, a complete removal and replacement of the surface asphalt course throughout the project limits, new traffic signal loops at all signaled intersections (including cross streets), and an upgrade of ADA ramps at selected locations,” Manning explains.

The project area extends from State Road 350 in Aurora to State Road 1 in Greendale.

As the work began Wednesday, it has been causing an extensive delay on U.S. 50 Eastbound. Crews have had just one lane open. Some motorists have reported travel time of 45 minutes to get from one end of Aurora to the other end of Lawrenceburg – a drive that usually only takes about 10 minutes.

“It is anticipated that primary work operations will take place at night during the bulk of the project, but the work that began today includes some daytime lane closures; primarily in the eastbound lanes, and primarily between the Kroger fuel station and State Road 48,” says Manning.
