A discarded cigarette may have sparked a brush fire in Dearborn County's Logan Township on Thursday afternoon.
Bright Fire Department Capt. Tom Stevens, Sr. said firefighters were called to the scene on Steele Road at about 3:00 p.m.
When firefighters arrived, most of the fire had been doused by four men who reported it. Firefighters used 250 gallons of water to put out the rest.
In all, about three-quarters of an acre was charred, Stevens said. Nobody was hurt.
The men told firefighters that the fire had been started by a lit cigarette.

(Logan Township, Ind.) - The Bright Fire Department is responding to a large brush fire in northern Dearborn County.
The first call about the fire in a field on Steele Road, off of North Dearborn Road, came in at 3:00 p.m.
Initial reports said the fire was spread over about a half-acre.
