Unexcused Day Action Steps Released for New School Attendance Program

The program aims to reduce absenteeism and truancy in Lawrenceburg, Rising Sun, South Dearborn and Sunman-Dearborn schools.

(Dearborn/Ohio Counties, Ind.) - More details have been released regarding a new, two-county-wide school attendance program.

The Honorable Judge Aaron Negangard, Dearborn-Ohio County Prosecutor Lynn Deddens, local school administrators and the Department of Child Services gathered earlier this week to announce the program, which aims to reduce absenteeism and truancy in Lawrenceburg, Rising Sun, South Dearborn and Sunman-Dearborn schools.

On Thursday, rules for the attendance initiative were released.

Students will receive four parent-excused days per school year, in addition to any medical, field trip, or college visit related excused absences.

Each additional parent-excused absence will be counted as unexcused. Unexcused day action steps are listed below:

  • 2 Unexcused – Parent Letter/Reminder Notice
  • 4 Unexcused – Parent Letter/Final Notice
  • 5 Unexcused – Parent Meeting with Student and Attendance Contract
  • 6 Unexcused – Parent Letter Notifying of Dearborn County Probation Referral
  • 8 Unexcused – Friday School
  • 9 Unexcused – 1 Day ACDC
  • 10 Unexcused – Dearborn County Probation Meeting
