(INDIANAPOLIS) - Federally funded unemployment insurance benefits will soon resume in Indiana.

The State Court of Appeals ruled Monday that Indiana must continue to pay out $300 in weekly pandemic unemployment assistance (PUA) benefits to thousands of Hoosiers.

The decision comes after a Marion County judge temporarily stopped Governor Eric Holcomb’s order to end unemployment benefits last month. The state appealed the decision, but Monday's ruling upheld the injunction.

Governor Holcomb announced in May that the state would stop its participation in all federally funded pandemic unemployment insurance programs on June 19.

A lawsuit was filed by two legal organizations about a month later, arguing that the governor’s actions would prematurely impact thousands of Hoosiers.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development is working to reinstate the PUA benefits as soon as possible.

PUA benefits are scheduled to end nationwide on September 4.
