Two Crashes Within Hours On I-74

First responders spent Monday evening at two separate wrecks on Interstate 74 in Dearborn County.

(Dearborn County, Ind.) - There were two crashes on Interstate 74 in Dearborn County Monday night, October 29.

The first wreck happened around 7:30 p.m. in the median near the State Road 46 underpass in St. Leon.

The driver, Mary Tava, 78, of Hastings, Michigan, was flown by Air Care to University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Sunman EMS assisted at the scene, pulling the driver from the wrecked vehicle. Tava told deputies she ran off the road and wrecked in the median of the highway. She also stated she believed she was in Hastings, Michigan.

Deputies later responded to a second crash on I-74, this time near the West Harrison-Brookville exit. It happened at about 10:30 p.m.

A semi and a passenger car collided after the driver of the car, Katie Schattke, 22, of West Chicago, Illinois, lost control of the vehicle. Her vehicle slammed into a guardrail before being struck by the semi.

Schattke suffered a head injury and was taken to Harrison Medical Center by Harrison EMS.

The truck driver, Leroy Harrison, Jr., 60, of Corinth, Kentucky, was not injured.
