(Greendale, Ind.) - A child was struck after running into the road in Greendale just before trick-or-treating began Monday.

An eyewitness tells Eagle 99.3 the 11-year-old boy had ran behind a stopped Catch-A-Ride bus on Ridge Avenue near the Lawrenceburg Distillery as he attempted to cross the street to his home at about 5:15 p.m. As he ran out from behind the bus into the other lane, the boy was struck by an oncoming pickup truck.

The impact sent the child into another vehicle stopped behind the bus. The eyewitness said the boy was wearing a Halloween mask when the accident occurred.

Family members tell Eagle 99.3 the child is Jeremy Delayo. He attends Central Elementary School in Lawrenceburg.

Delayo was taken to Dearborn County Hospital by ambulance following the accident. The relatives said he suffered a broken femur and a concussion. The boy was later aircared to Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati.

Greendale is a popular destination for area families looking for a place to go door to door on Halloween. Trick-or-treating was from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday.

Eagle 99.3 has contacted the Greendale Police Department seeking more information.
