Indiana cities, counties, towns, and non-profits can apply for a tourism development grant.

(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Local governments and nonprofits that can improve tourism in Indiana can now apply for the Destination Development Grant, said Chip Perfect (R-Lawrenceburg).

The Indiana Office of Tourism Development recently announced that the application period for the grant is open and offers matching grants to entities that demonstrate a financial need and are committed to developing amenities and experiences that increase the tourism appeal of Indiana destinations. Projects that enhance the economic vitality of local communities and regions in Indiana by improving the tourism industry are eligible to apply for funding.

To be eligible to apply for the program, towns, cities, counties and nonprofits must demonstrate a financial need and be involved with tourism promotion and development. Applicants must be signed by an official authorized to legally bind the applicant to perform the project. The applicant is also responsible for meeting all grant requirements.

“I encourage eligible groups to consider this financial resource when planning tourism development,” Perfect said. “From its inception, this program has had nothing but positive influence in communities across our state and I am confident groups in our local community could benefit greatly from this opportunity.”

Entities that have previously received a Destination Development Grant may not apply for additional Destination Development funds for a two-year period from the date of their last award.

The deadline for applications is Dec. 6, 2019 by 4 p.m. ET. Finalists will be announced on Feb. 7, 2020.  An announcement of the award recipients will be made on March 6, 2020.
