(Florence, Ky.) - A new road is open in Florence, expected to help eliminate congestion at a busy intersection.

The new road named Quadrant Road is a so-called “jug handle.” It runs a short distance between U.S. 42 and Weaver Road, an intersection that sees 43,000 vehicles each day.

Quadrant Road opened to traffic Monday.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the new design transfers all of the left turn drivers on U.S. 42 onto the new Quadrant Road. But U.S. 42 and Weaver Road traffic continuing straight or making a right turn won’t have any change.

Some work is still being completed on the new road, such as a traffic island, striping and signage, so motorists should be cautious of work crews in the area.
