Survey: One-Third of Americans Have Already Started Their Holiday Shopping

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – It may be hard to believe, but Christmas is 100 days away.

That begs the question, “Have you started your holiday shopping yet?”

According to a recent survey conducted by TopCashback.com, over one in ten (11%) Americans will start their holiday shopping in September.

The survey polled a cross-section of 1,756 US-based adults, aged 18 and over.

Of those surveyed, 49 percent said they plan to shop early this holiday season, while 51 percent are waiting for Black Friday and/or holiday sales, such as Cyber Monday.

Further Breakdown

  • Will start in November (32 percent)
  • Started already but have not finished (26 percent)
  • Will start in October (19 percent)
  • Will start in September (11 percent)
  • Will start in December (7 percent)
  • Already completed holiday shopping (5 percent)

Most respondents (85%) said they prefer to do a majority of their shopping online, while 15 percent enjoy in-person shopping.

Fifty-three percent find that shopping for gifts is the most stressful part of the holiday season. Other activities considered most stressful include cooking/baking, traveling, spending time with family, and decorating.
