(Indianapolis, Ind.) - A local farm is being recognized at the Indiana State Fair.

The David Lesko Family of Sunman was named a certified livestock producer program by the Indiana State Department of Agriculture this week. They were among six Hoosier farms given the certification Monday at the state fairgrounds.

The designation goes to farms which get high marks in environmental stewardship, animal well-being, biosecurity, emergency planning, and community relations.

“These producers are going the extra mile in almost every aspect of their farm management, from ensuring the well-being of their animals to being good stewards of the environment,” Indiana State Department of Agriculture Director Bruce Kettler said. “We’re proud to welcome them into the Certified Livestock Producer program.”

Only about 150 farms statewide have been named Certified Livestock Producers since the program began in 2008.
