Longtime AD Don Stonefield is going to teaching, while Moore will become the new AD.
(St. Leon, Ind.) - There has been a shakeup in the East Cental High School athletic department.
On Thursday, the Sunman-Dearborn Community School Board were presented with two transfer requests, one from Don Stonefield and the other from Kevin Moore.
Stonefield requested to be moved from athletic director to teacher while Kevin Moore requested being transferred from East Central Middle School assistant principal to athletic director.
The motion was approved, although it was not unanimous.
Stonefield has served as East Central High School's athletic director since 2011. Prior to that, he was head coach of the varsity football team from 2003 to 2010. In that span, Stonefield led the Trojans to a record of 76-21, winning four sectional titles and a regional crown in eight seasons.
He stepped back into coaching in 2018 to bridge the gap between Justin Roden's departure and Jake Meiners hiring as head football coach.
"I requested a transfer from Athletic Director to a certified position to cut down on my hours and reduce the amount of time I am spending," said Stonefield. Nothing more or less. I am finishing my 12th year and have enjoyed the growth and successes of the athletic department. It takes an extreme amount of time and energy and my family and I are looking forward to the change for the last part of my career."
As for Moore, he has had a successful coaching career himself. In 14 seasons, Moore has led the Lady Trojans varsity basketball team to a record of 236-99, seven EIAC championships, and three sectional titles.
"I'm truly excited about the transition from middle school assistant principal to high school athletic director," said Moore. "East Central athletics has a long-standing tradition of success set forth by many coaches and athletic directors over the years, including the two that I have worked for in Dave Jarvis and Don Stonefield. My goal is to take what I have learned from them along with some of my own beliefs to continue providing a platform for our student-athletes to excel in and our school and community to be proud of. I've enjoyed my nine years at the middle school but I look forward to getting started in July and being able to work with the coaches to serve the students and community in this new role."
