INDIANAPOLIS - Students at two area school districts are taking advantage of the Indiana Department of Education’s (IDOE) Crossing the Finish Line program.

The IDOE announced last Friday that Sunman-Dearborn Community Schools and Batesville Community School Corporation are among the top five schools with the highest enrollment numbers in the program.

Munster, Elkhart, and Hobart round out the top five.

Through Indiana’s Crossing the Finish Line initiative, Hoosier students can complete their high-quality credential, technical certificate, or another short-or-longer-term credential for free this summer.

The program provides free tuition and books at Ivy Tech Community College or Vincennes University for students who are just a few credits away from completing their credential.

The purpose is to help students save money, pursue their goals, and jumpstart a successful future.

In 2021, the program served nearly 1,900 students from over 275 high schools, saving them and their families over $1.4 million in tuition and fees.
