Stolen Truck Recovered After Accused Thief Crashes

(Franklin County, Ind.) - Police say a drunken woman was found at the wheel of a stolen pickup truck located in Franklin County.

A 2006 Ford pickup was reported stolen on Tuesday, January 8 from the campus of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies received a call about a pickup truck wrecked off the roadway in the 13000 block of Prophet Road later that evening just before 8:00 p.m. Deputies arrived to find Rachel M. Tietz in the vehicle, which they realized was the stolen truck.

Teitz, 41, of Middletown, Ohio, was arrested on preliminary charges of Theft (level 6 felony), Operating a Vehicle While Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance (class C misdemeanor), and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (class C misdemeanor). She was booked into jail in Franklin County on a $5,000 bond.

Formal charges could be filed soon after the case is reviewed by the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office.

The stolen truck was towed back to Ohio for crime scene processing by Miami University Investigators. 

Brookville Police Department and Miami University Police Department assisted with the investigation.
