Statewide EAS Test Tuesday

Broadcast stations across Indiana will participate in the statewide tornado drill at 10:15 a.m.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - March 17-23 is Severe Weather Preparedness Week in the Hoosier state.

Through Saturday, residents are encouraged to ensure their families are prepared for severe weather ahead of its peak season.

As part of those efforts, Indiana broadcast stations and National Weather Service will sound an Emergency Alert System test at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 19.

“Testing our state’s EAS is critical to saving lives,” said Indiana Broadcasters Association executive director Dave Arland.  “With permission from the Federal Communications Commission, broadcasters will be listening for the Live Tornado Warning alert issued by the National Weather Service and alerting our listeners and viewers about the test.  Making sure that alerts are broadcast as designed allows our TV and radio stations to better prepare for when an actual alert is necessary.  These alerts are often the first line of defense in making sure Hoosiers are able to find shelter and safety when dangerous weather strikes.”

A Live Tornado Drill will also occur at the same time, lasting as long as 15 minutes.
