Volunteers are needed for the child advocate program.
INDIANAPOLIS - State Senator Jean Leising (R-Oldenburg) met with an important nonprofit organization from southeastern Indiana this week.
Leising was joined at the Statehouse by Ripley County Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) members, a program of the Southeastern Indiana Voices for Children organization.
The group spoke with Leising about ways their organization has supported children in Ripley County and how the Indiana General Assembly can better support children in need of legal representation.
Through the program, volunteers are recruited and trained to advocate for children’s best interests inside and outside the courtroom. They work with attorneys, mental health professionals, and service providers to meet the needs of these children and help them find safe permanent homes.
There continues to be a great need for more volunteers in our area. To qualify as a CASA/GAL volunteer, you must be 21 years of age, a mature adult, have reliable transportation, and submit to a background check.
