(Switzerland County, Ind.) - Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Force Construction Company plans to close the S.R. 56 bridge over Lost Fork Creek on or after Monday, June 6, to complete a bridge replacement project in Jefferson County. The bridge is located just over eight miles east of U.S. 421 near the Switzerland County line and will remain closed for approximately 90 days. Traffic will be detoured to U.S. 421 and S.R. 129.

Following completion of the bridge at Lost Fork Creek, contract crews will replace a box culvert on S.R. 56, located just east of Spring Branch Road in Switzerland County. State Road 56 will close for approximately 30 days while work is in progress. Traffic will follow the same detour for this closure. An official start date will be announced. Both structures will not be closed at the same time.

The $5.5 million rehabilitation contract also includes a superstructure replacement project on S.R. 156 at Log Lick Creek near Markland Dam. This project will begin as early as this fall under phased construction with temporary traffic signals.

The contract was awarded to Force in February 2022 and has an overall completion date of October 30, 2023. INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, avoid distractions, and consider worker safety when traveling through active construction zones. All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.
