INDIANAPOLIS - State Rep. Randy Lyness (R-West Harrison) today announced his plans to retire from the legislature after serving eight years in the Indiana House of Representatives. Lyness said he intends to serve out his current term, but not seek re-election.

Lyness represents House District 68, which includes Ohio, Switzerland and Dearborn counties, and a portion of Jefferson County. He serves as vice chair of the House Committee on Local Government, and as a member of the House Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development Committee, and the House Employment, Labor and Pensions Committee.

"Over the last eight years, it has been a privilege to represent the good people of House District 68," Lyness said. "During my time as a legislator, I have worked to keep government small, including cutting taxes to help Hoosiers keep more of the money they earned. I'm grateful for all the support I have received throughout my time in the legislature and for the opportunity to serve our communities."

In 2022, Lyness supported the passage of a $1 billion tax-relief package to support hardworking Hoosiers – the largest tax cut in state history. Last session, Lyness also supported the new biennial state budget, which is expected to save taxpayers an estimated $430 million over the next two years via tax relief. He also supported efforts to further reduce the state's individual income tax over the last two years, which will result in Hoosiers having one of the lowest rates in the nation by 2027.

"Randy has done an excellent job bringing the voices of Southeast Indiana Hoosiers to the Statehouse," said House Speaker Todd Huston (R-Fishers). "I wish him and his wife, Linda, the very best, and I look forward to serving alongside him during his last legislative session."

Lyness, a lifetime resident of Southeast Indiana, lives with his wife, Linda, in West Harrison. They have three sons and 12 grandchildren, all of whom live locally. For more than 30 years, Lyness has owned and operated Randall Lyness Builders, specializing in custom homes, remodeling and small commercial projects.
