(Switzerland County, Ind.) - Switzerland County drivers used to traversing State Road 56 may have to find a new route starting Monday.
The Indiana Department of Transportation begins a $6.3 million project to repair slides and fix asphalt on the highway.
SR 56 will be closed between the SR 156 intersection and State Road 250 in East Enterprise.
The highway won’t reopen anytime soon. INDOT says the closure will last through July 2013, weather permitting.
Local residents will still have access to the closed road, but through traffic will need to use one of two detours set up:
Southbound SR 56 will detour onto westbound SR 250 to southbound SR 129 to SR 56. The detour will end at the SR 129/SR 56 intersection on the east end of Vevay.
Westbound SR 156 or eastbound 56 will detour on SR 129 northbound to eastbound SR 250 to SR 56. The detour will end at the SR 250 and SR 56 intersection in East Enterprise.
