Southwest Local School District Delays 2020-2021 Start Date

Schools in the SLSD will now start on Tuesday, September 8.

(Harrison, Oh.) - The Southwest Local School District administration has made the decision to delay the start of school for the 2020-2021 school year.

In response to concerns surrounding mask requirements in the heat, both in-person and virtual classes will now begin Tuesday, September 8.

While this change might affect your decision to register for face-to-face or virtual instruction, the deadline for form completion remains Friday, July 17. You may go into Final Forms under the "Re-Opening of Schools" form to modify your selection today. It is crucial parents/guardians and students choose which learning option they will be using so the school district can plan for the proper allocation of our resources (staff and transportation).

Other than the start date change, all other aspects of the SLSD Re-Opening plan remain the same.

As this is a fluid situation, the plan will be updated as needed in the event of updated guidance or directives from Governor DeWine, the Ohio Department of Health, Hamilton County Public Health, and the Ohio Department of Education.

An updated school calendar will be published on the district website once approved by the SLSD Board of Education at the July 30 meeting.

"Again, we appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we continue to strive to provide Academic and Social Growth for All Students, Every Day, even during these unprecedented and unpredictable times," reads an announcement from the school district. "As we’ve said from the beginning, the situation remains very fluid, and our goal is to balance the safety of our students and staff with meeting the instructional needs of over 4,200 students in a pandemic environment."

All questions should be directed to your child’s school.
