Southeast Indiana Experiencing Moderate Drought

Dry conditions have caused burn bans to be issued in four local counties.

(Southeast Indiana) - Dry conditions and high temperatures are continuing in southeast Indiana. 

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, the region, which includes Dearborn, Franklin, Ohio, Ripley and Switzerland counties, is currently experiencing a moderate drought. 

Due to the dry conditions, Dearborn, Franklin, Ohio and Switzerland counties have issued burn bans. 

According to the National Weather Service, there is a chance for rain in the area starting Sunday night through Friday. The chances are around 30 to 40 percent each day. 

Examples of historically observed impacts during a moderate drought include blue-green algae blooms appear, creek and pond levels are low, and crop growth is stunted.
