(Aurora, Ind.) – A 2012 South Dearborn High School graduate is now a holder of a Guinness World Record.

Kyle Kelly successful skied or snowboarded at a record 23 resorts in a 24-hour period.

The previous record was 17 resorts and was held in Japan.

Kelly started his record-breaking run Saturday at noon, skiing at Nubs Nob in Harbor Springs.

The rest of the 22 stops were also in the state of Michigan, including the final stop at Cannonsburg, just outside of Grand Rapids.

Kelly was joined on the mission by snowboarder and friend Brad Dykstra.

Prior to attempting to break they Guinness Record, Kelly stated “Michigan is the perfect place to attempt this record. According to the Michigan Snowsports Industries Association, no matter where you are in the state, you are within a two-hour drive of a ski area.”

Because of the nature of the record attempt, Kelly and Dykstra arrived at some of the ski areas during times they were closed for skiing. However, those ski resorts went out of their way to accommodate them.

Being a native of southeastern Indiana, Kelly got his start skiing at Perfect North Slopes in Lawrenceburg.
