Skeletal Remains Located in Carroll County in 1980 Identified

The remains were associated with other remains located in the Switzerland County area the same year.

(Carroll County, Ky.) – In November 1980, skeletal remains were located in Carroll County near the Ohio River.

Over 40 years later, those remains have been identified.

According to Kentucky State Police, a DNA test determined the remains were Kenneth Linville who was born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1939.

When the remains were located in 1980, it was unknown at the time that the remains were associated with skeletal remains located in September 1980 near the Ohio River in the Switzerland County area.

It was 2005 when DNA testing revealed that the remains belonged to the same person, however the DNA test was not able to identify the person at that time.

The Kentucky State Police submitted skeletal remains to Othram in Woodland, Texas in 2023. Othram was able to develop a DNA extract, and used Forensic-Grade Genome Sequencing to build a comprehensive DNA profile for Linville.

Due to information learned from Othram, detectives were able to locate a potential family member of the unknown person whose remains were located years ago. The potential family member agreed to meet with KSP, and a confirmation DNA test was obtained.

The cause and manner of death remains unknown.

The investigation is ongoing.
