She will serve a three-year term.

(Batesville, Ind.) - The Batesville Community Education Foundation (BCEF) is pleased to announce the election of Dr. Michelle Shorten to a three-year term on its board of directors.
Born and raised in southeastern Indiana, Dr. Shorten graduated high school from Franklin County and then received a bachelor’s of science degree in chemistry at Butler University. She earned her medical doctorate at Indiana University School of Medicine, and subsequently completed her residency in Family Medicine at Franciscan St. Francis in Indianapolis. She has been serving as a primary care physician for more than 10 years, currently working with St. Elizabeth Physicians. Dr. Shorten has also trained in informatics, participated in hospital leadership committees, and volunteered in the community.
Dr. Shorten lives in Batesville with her husband, Matt, and her son Garrett, who is a sixth grader at Batesville Middle School.
“When we were choosing where to live after residency, the public school system in Batesville was a major factor in our final decision,” Dr. Shorten said. “I’ve learned to appreciate the role that BCEF plays in providing opportunities to our students, and I’m excited to see how I might be able to help.”
The Batesville Community Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides additional funding for innovative learning opportunities that go beyond the basics in academics, athletics, and the arts in the Batesville public schools, enhancing the educational environment for all students.
