Severe Weather Threat Pushes Florence Freedom Opening Day To Friday

The Freedom were scheduled to play Lake Erie on Opening Day, but they will have a new opponent come Friday.

(Florence, Ky.) – Big changes are being made to the Florence Freedom’s 2019 schedule thanks to the threat of severe weather.

The Florence Freedom were originally scheduled to take on the Lake Erie Crushers on Thursday night, but a nearly 100 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms has pushed Opening Day back to Friday night.

Friday’s Opening Day contest will now be against the Joliet Slammers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

“We have made the tough decision to try and be proactive by rescheduling our Opening Day, and Opening Day festivities,” said John Anderson, Freedom Vice President and GM. “With so much invested in promotions and appearances on Thursday, we couldn’t risk losing the game entirely. We understand weather is unpredictable and could change before Thursday, but with so many moving parts and looking at the high probability of not just rain, but severe weather, we though best to get in front of this as best we could and move opening night back one day.”

Former Cincinnati Reds Danny Graves, Wily Mo Pena and Felipe Lopez were scheduled to be part of the Thursday night festivities. The promotion will now take place when the Freedom make up their game against Lake Erie on Sunday, July 7 at 5:35 p.m.

Fans that purchased single game tickets to Thursday’s rescheduled game may exchange their tickets for the July 7 game, and will receive an additional ticket voucher for another 2019 regular season game.

Friday’s home game will be Superhero Night: Marvel. Over 20 characters will appear for photos and meet n’ greets.
