(Ripley County, Ind.) - Nelson Harmeyer, Jr. was found guilty of Operating while Intoxicated with a Prior Offense (Level 6 Felony) within seven years following a jury trial held in February.

After the guilty verdict, Harmeyer Jr., 49, of Greensburg, admitted to being a Habitual Vehicular Substance Offender.

At the sentencing hearing on March 17, the Judge agreed with the State's recommendation that the maximum sentence of 10.5 years was appropriate for Harmeyer Jr. due to his lengthy criminal history that includes five prior OWI convictions.

Harmeyer Jr. had recently finished an eight-year sentence on similar charges.

Ripley County Prosecuting Attorney said, "the community was safer with Harmeyer Jr. incarcerated."
