RSRF Announces $278K In New Grants

(Rising Sun, Ind.) - The Rising Sun Regional Foundation (RSRF) awarded a total of $278,170 in 14 new grants at its March 28, 2011 meeting.  These grants included:

 

$7,394 to the City of Rising Sun toward the purchase of a John Deere Gator tractor for the City’s downtown annal flower program as well as for maintenace of other City and Parks Department properties;

 

$25,000 to the Ohio County Community Foundation toward the implementation of its overall multi-year Ec015 (Economic Opportunities by 2015) Program, including its recently initiated hospitality education project;

 

$1,250 to the Rising Sun/Ohio County Community School Corporation toward a one day leadership program for all juniors during the 2012-2013 school year;

 

$15,000 to the Rising Sun/Ohio County Community School Corporation toward the purchase of 24 kits to teach higher level reading comprehension skills;

 

$5,000 to the Ohio County Public Library toward the purchase of e-readers, computers, and digital content books for better service to its patrons;

 

$8,000 challenge grant to the Milan Lions Club toward providing new and improved lighting for the walking path at the Milan Town Park utilized by the entire community;

 

$15,000 to the Ohio County Highway Department toward the purchase of a Kubota Cub tractor for the more efficient use of its roadside mower in all types of weather;

 

$27,656 to the South Dearborn Community School Corporation toward the purchase of materials and supplies for Aurora Elementary School-related teacher Professional Development and future compliance with state mandated testing;

 

$25,000 to the Aurora Park Board toward fencing for a new dog park for that community;

 

$111,000 to the Ripley County Community Foundation toward the implementation of its multi-year Ec015 (Economic Opportunities by 2015) Ripley County Technology Consortium action plan that includes all four of the public community school corporations in Ripley County;

 

$3,370 to the Aurora Little League toward the replacement of the scoreboard and the purchase of controllers at its ball field;

 

$7,500 challenge grant to the Southeastern Indiana YMCA toward the resurfacing of its outdoor walking track utilized not only by its members but the broader community;

 

$6,000 challenge grant to Oldenburg Academy toward the purchase and installation of a new  muliti-purpose theatre curtain set in its auditorium used extensively by the school for educational and performance purposes, as well as by regional schools and for a variety of community theater, dance, and musical events; 

 

$21,000 to the Morris Volunteer Firemen's Association toward the purchase of equipment for a new pumper truck.

 

In announcing the awarding of these new grants, foundation President Marianne Wiggers stated, “As can be seen in the awarded grants, RSRF is off to an equally challenging year as in its past 15 years, in creatively and purposefully responding to this varied list of grant needs.”

 

The Rising Sun Regional Foundation was created in 1994 by the City of Rising Sun in conjunction with the development of the Grand Victoria Casino and Resort by the Hyatt Corporation.  The foundation began its grantmaking program in early 1997, which it has continued to implement on a quarterly basis.  RSRF is now funded by the Rising Star Casino Resort, owned by Full House Resorts, Inc., which makes monthly contributions to the foundation based on a percentage of its adjusted gross revenue.
