Record Temperatures Expected Today

Fall weather might be here by the weekend, but not before some more summer heat over the next few days.

(Wilmington, Oh.) - The calendar has flipped to October, but it still feels like summer in the tri-state.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will rise into the low to mid 90’s by early afternoon Tuesday, which is 25 to 30 degrees above normal temperatures this time of the year.

Add in high humidity and heat index values could reach close to 100 degrees.

Persons sensitive to heat should limit time spent outdoors. Frequent breaks in the shade and plenty of water for those who must be out during the hottest part of the day.

The hot and dry weather has also created an increased risk for fast-spreading fire. As of last Thursday, all five southeastern Indiana counties are under a burn ban until further notice.

A burn ban means most types of outdoor burning are prohibited. However, preparing food on gas and charcoal grills is still permitted, although charcoal from grills shouldn't be removed until the charcoal has been thoroughly extinguished.

So, when might we see some rain? The National Weather Service says there is a 30 percent chance for rain on Sunday.

There is some good news, however. Temperatures are expected to drop into the 70’s by Friday.
