(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) – Thanks to merciless rainfall, a Flood Watch is in effect for the entire tri-state until Monday evening.
The National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio says the tri-state could see two to three inches of rain Monday. A moist, low pressure airmass is to blame, say meteorologists.
Because of the ground already being saturated by earlier rains, any new rainfall will become immediate runoff causing creeks and streams to flood.
Some local roads have become streams, such as U.S. 50 near Lowes in Lawrenceburg where motorists report ponding has become an issue.
A Flood Warning is in effect for the Great Miami River at Miamitown, which is expected to reach flood stage of 16 feet this evening. The river will crest sometime Tuesday morning at 23 feet, swamping low lying areas along the river.
The latest rainfall is helping the Cincinnati area shatter the previous annual rainfall record set in 1991. So far, 67.52 inches have fallen in 2011.
