Pureval Lawyers Won't Delay Election Commission Hearing

The Ohio 1st Congressional District candidate is accused of using $16,000 from his county clerk of courts campaign to illegally fund his run for Congress.

(Cincinnati, Oh.) - A candidate for Ohio’s First Congressional District will no longer try to delay a hearing before election day.

Democrat Hamilton County Clerk of Courts Aftab Pureval is challenging Republican incumbent Steve Chabot to represent Ohio House District 1, which includes western Hamilton County, in Washington.

Pureval is accused of illegally using money from his clerk of courts campaign to fund his race against Chabot. A $16,000 check was written to pay for a poll, an attorney for the campaign has admitted.

Pureval’s attorneys filed a number of motions attempting to delay a hearing on the matter before the Ohio Elections Commission until after election day. They contended the candidate and his campaign manager are too busy ahead of the election.

On Monday, the attorneys retracted those motions. The election commission hearing is set to take place Thursday, November 1.

A poll earlier this month gave Chabot a nine-point lead over Pureval.

The two candidates will meet for their third and final debate on Tuesday. It is hosted by the Cincinnati Enquirer.
