Project Hope Will Unveil Its First Project Thursday

Several organizations made this project possible.

(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - The butterfly is symbolic of transformation, which is exactly why the Dearborn County JCAP Alumni uses one in its logo. 

Dearborn County Jail Chemical Addictions Program offers early intervention and treatment within a correctional setting to create a positive impact upon an alumni’s release in the community. 

Tisha Linzy, the Program Director for JCAP, says there is a lack of positive social experiences for people in recovery. 

LeAnn Price, a local ceramic artist with a Bachelor’s degree in Art Therapy, was thinking about ways art could make a difference in the community. 

Price was involved with City of Lawrenceburg's Community Action Recovery Effort (CARE) where she listened to peer recovery coaches speak and she learned that the most difficult part of recovery is trying to enter back into the community with the stigma and shame of drug addiction. 

With Linzy looking for positive ways for JCAP alumni to participate in the community and Price interested in creating a public piece of art to display in the community, Project Hope was born. 

Project Hope is a series of collaborative artworks the JCAP alumni hope to share with the community. 

For the JCAP alumni groups first big project, Price had the idea of creating a totem out of clay. This would allow each person to create a piece or part, then pull it all together as one piece of art. 

“It has been amazing to watch them. Some of the alumni have never created art or touched clay before. I think they were surprised by what they could do,” said Price. 

The project had some delays due to COVID-19 but will be unveiled at the Lawrenceburg Public Library later this week. The public is invited to attend the event on Thursday, June 17, from noon to 2 p.m. 

The unveiling will take place at 12:30 p.m.  

JCAP alumni are scheduled to speak along with Tisha Linzy and LeAnn Price.

Several organizations made this project possible. However, for Project Hope to continue additional donations and financial support will be needed.
