Poll: Trump Support Among Hoosiers Is Way Up

More than half of Hoosiers think President Trump is doing a good job.

(Muncie, Ind.) - Hoosiers are mostly in approval of the job Donald Trump is doing as president.

An Old National Bank/Ball State University Hoosier Survey polled 604 Indiana adults. Fifty-three percent of them approved of the job Trump is doing in the White House. Only 39 percent disapproved.

Trump’s Indiana approval rating is up 12 points from last year. It’s a trend that may not bode well for Democrats on the ballot this November.

“These survey results add to the evidence that the president’s approval is beginning to rebound, just in time for the midterm elections,” said Chad Kinsella, a political science professor and survey analyst at the Bowen Center for Public Affairs at Ball State, which conducts the annual public opinion survey.

Trump’s approval varies greatly by political party affiliation. He has 92 percent approval from Republicans, 46 percent from independents, and 11 percent among Democrats.

The survey has a margin of error of 5.1 percentage points.

Ball State University’s Bowen Center plans to release more polling results in coming weeks, including topics such as gas and cigarette tax increases, school safety, opioid/drug problems, sports gambling, medical work requirements, and legal marijuana.
