(Indianapolis, Ind.) – Indiana’s legislative leaders have hired an outside attorney to represent Attorney General Curtis Hill.
The House and Senate hired Indianapolis attorney Susan Zoeller to represent the Republican AG accused of committing professional misconduct by groping four women at a downtown Indianapolis bar in May of 2018.
The alleged victims filed a lawsuit last month, accusing Hill of sexual harassment and defamation. Their suit seeks monetary damages from the state and Hill, an apology from Hill for his denials and an injunction ordering the state to adopt tougher sexual harassment policies.
Hill has been steadfast in denying the allegations and has rebuffed calls from Gov. Eric Holcomb and other state officials to resign his post.
As attorney general, Hill typically represents state agencies and offices in lawsuits, but House Speaker Brian Bosma and Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray agreed that independent legal counsel was needed given the nature of the case.
Bray said Zoeller was hired as outside counsel to avoid any conflict or even the appearance of conflict with the attorney general.
