(Undated) - Nearly half of the United States will see an increase in their minimum wage in 2021.

CBS News reports that the minimum wage will increase in 20 states beginning on January 1.

Among those states is Ohio, where the minimum wage will rise to $8.80. Four more states and Washington, D.C. will raise their baseline pay later in the year.

The current minimum wage in the U.S. is $7.25 per hour. If you multiply that number by 40, the average hours in a work week, it comes out to $290 dollars a week – making it difficult for low-wage workers to get by.

The minimum wage has not grown since 2009. Since then, the cost of living has increased 21 percent.

Indiana and Kentucky do not currently have plans to raise their minimum wage.
