(Osgood, Ind.) – An EF0 tornado touched down in Ripley County on Monday.
The National Weather Service in Wilmington, in conjunction with Ripley County EMA, confirmed the tornado occurred just north of Osgood in the early morning hours of March 7.
The damage specific to the tornado was confined to the U.S. 421 area near Jac-Cen-Del Community Schools and extended to just north of State Road 350 in the area of Finks Road.
Some damage was done at the school, including the toppling of a light pole in the athletic fields north of the school, and roof damage.
Debris also caused damage to buses parked at the school.
An outbuilding in the 700 block of West State Road 350 was damaged by snapped trees, and broken tree branches and chimney damage was reported along U.S. 421 just west of the school.
An EF0 tornado is categorized as weak with winds of 65 to 85 MPH.
According to the NWS report, the estimated maximum wind speed through the Osgood area was 75 MPH with a path length of 1.3 miles.
The tornado was estimated to have lasted from 4:09 to 4:11 a.m.
No injuries or fatalities were reported.
