(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - North Dearborn Community Park recently was awarded $1,000 through the Dearborn Community Foundation’s Proactive Grant program on the recommendation of a board member who says she “really appreciates efforts to preserve natural spaces that encourage healthy lifestyles in lieu of housing developments.”

The grant was recommended by Linda Gellert as part of the Foundation’s annual program, through which each of the organization’s 15 volunteer Board members recommends a grant.

The money will go toward the park’s mission “to move, play and thrive,” serving residents, schools, and community organizations in Dearborn County,” she said.

“Community Parks support natural habitat, and provide green spaces for family and community activities,” said Gellert, citing that the space was made possible by razing the abandoned North Dearborn Elementary School.

Plans for the park, located at 5687 North Dearborn Road, Guilford, include a one-mile walk/run/bike path. Visit their new website at ndparks.wixsite.com/ndcp or find more on Facebook.

Anyone can contribute to an unrestricted DCF endowment to help make impact grants like the 15 DCF Board members are recommending in 2024. For a list of unrestricted endowments and to learn more about the Foundation, visit the website dearborncf.org or call 812-539-4115.
