(Napoleon, Ind.) – A pavement and bridge replacement project is underway on U.S. 421 between Napoleon and Osgood.

As of April 1, construction personnel have closed U.S. 421 south of Napoleon.

The initial news release from the Indiana Department of Transportation showed the U.S. 421 would first close between C.R. 850 N. and C.R. 750 N.

However, the Napoleon Volunteer Fire Department reports that U.S. 421 has been closed from Michigan Road to 600 N. Access to U.S. 421 from 700 N has also been closed.

Access to Michigan Road will remain in place until bridge construction begins in the summer. Currently, Michigan Road has been officially posted as local traffic only.

The official detour is State Road 48 to State Road 129 to State Road 350.

The Napoleon Volunteer Fire Department reminds motorists who choose to use county roads to detour around the closure to watch their speed and travel with extra caution.

In addition, barricades have been left staggered to allow residents access to their homes, but other barricades are set as hard closures. Motorists are reminded that just because you can enter the construction zone in one place, that does not mean you will be able to exit in another.
