(Dearborn County, Ind.) - Firefighters from Dearborn and Ripley counties had to put out a couple brush fires Tuesday afternoon.

The fires scorched large areas on Collier Ridge Road and Salt Fork Road.

“As the ground may be wet, the vegetation on the top is dry which in yesterday’s wind conditions caused many vegetation fires in the county,” said Miller-York Volunteer Fire Department president Greggory Callahan.

The Collier Ridge Road fire started at around 3:45 p.m. with a wood pile burning that got out of control. It burned about 14 acres.

As firefighters were cleaning up on Collier Ridge, another call came in for a brush fire on Salt Fork Road at around 5:27. Pieces of cardboard were being burned in a barrel when an ember flew out and sparked the dry vegetation.

Fire departments responding to the brush fires included Miller-York, Bright, Lawrenceburg, Greendale, Manchester and Sunman. Lawrenceburg EMS was also on the scene for the Collier Ridge fire.
