(Holton, Ind.) - Eight of the 13 people in Indiana killed in the March 2 tornadoes were inside mobile homes when the storms struck.

That includes the two men who died in Holton in Ripley County. Ronald Pickett, 59, and Victor Armando Hernandez Carranza, 27, were each inside mobile homes when an EF 3 tornado blew through town.

The Louisville Courier-Journal reports that although mobile homes make up only six percent of Indiana’s housing, 93 percent of the tornado deaths in the state between 1996 and 2007 were in trailers.

The newspaper’s report cited a study published in the scientific journal Natural Hazards.

In Holton, a total of 18 homes and 14 businesses were destroyed by the March 2 tornado.
