(Frankfort, Ky.) – Mitch McConnell is not going anywhere.

The 78-year-old is the longest-serving U.S. Senator for Kentucky, and the longest-serving leader of the U.S. Senate Republicans in history.

He will add some years to that historic run after being declared the winner in Tuesday’s General Election.

According to election results from the Associated Press, McConnell defeated Democrat Amy McGrath in a landslide 1,222,749 votes to 793,729.

McGrath was seen as a legitimate challenger to unseat McConnell as she had substantial financial backing.

However, McConnell will see his seventh term in the Senate. It is unclear at this time if he will remain in the role of majority leader considering votes are still being tallied across the country.

The Democrats need to gain four Senate seats to take the majority.

In other Kentucky election news, Thomas Massie has been declared the winner in the U.S. 4th District Congressional race.

With 96 percent reporting, Massie holds a 67 to 33 percent lead over Democrat Alexandra Owensby.
