Original story published Thursday, August 15:

(Dearborn County, Ind.) - Some of us received some much-needed rain early Tuesday morning, but it’s getting so dry in the tri-state that at least one local fire department is asking residents to refrain from some burning activities.

Miller-York Fire Department president Greggory Callahan has announced that a burn ban has been ordered for his department’s coverage area in parts of Miller, York, Kelso and Logan townships.

The Miller-York burn ban applies to campfires larger than four feet in diameter without a fire ring and means to extinguish. Burning of debris, timber, or vegetation, as well as use of burn barrels, is also off-limits until conditions improve.

Charcoal and gas grills are exempt from the burn ban. Charcoal from grills should not be removed until it is thoroughly extinguished.

It  has been weeks since a significant rain event for many parts of the Eagle Country 99.3 listening area. The U.S. Drought Monitor's latest update on August 8 does not have our area under any level of drought, but that could change if dry weather persists.
